(TTH Portals) - On April 3, 2023, the first happy schools international symposium themed “Can happiness skills be learned” was held at Hue University of Education. The deputy Minister of Education and Training Ministry Nguyen Van Phuc attended the symposium. The standing member of the provincial Party Committee, Vice Permanent Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Binh; the standing member of the provincial Party Committee, the Secretary of Hue city’s Party Committee, Chairman of Hue city’s People’s Council Phan Thien Dinh attended the symposium.
The project is implemented by Eurasia Learning Institute (ELI), Hue University of Education and Department of Education and Training during creating happiness for teachers, students and learner community. The symposium is organized both online and offline at Hue University of Education from April 3 to April 6, 2023. It focuses on mental health, social emotion education, the journey to peace and happiness, happiness skills, etc.
Speaking at the event, the deputy Minister of Education and Training Ministry Nguyen Van Phuc extended his pleasure to recognize the concern of delegates, experts and teachers. Developing happy school involves a process in which the accompany and participation of several sides are required, said Deputy Minister. He expected that lessons shared by experts and scholars would contribute to developing happiness school not only in Vietnam, but also in the world.

Speaking at the symposium, Vice Permanent Chairman Nguyen Thanh Binh emphasized that Thua Thien Hue was proud of being the host of the first happy schools international symposium. Happy school aims to set core values i.e. love, safety and respect. The voice of each staff, teacher and learner is heard. Happy school creates favorable conditions for individuals to innovate and promote their creativity. In this environment, each day at school is filled of happiness and school is considered as family. Teachers should see school as their home and students as their children. In return, students and their parents should have proper response.
On behalf of the leaders of Thua Thien Hue province, Vice Permanent Chairman Nguyen Thanh Binh extended his sincere thank to Education and Training Ministry and experts who have always supported Thua Thien Hue in implementing Happy School project. Vice Chairman hoped that experts and scholars would discuss mechanisms and solutions to developing a happy school with Hue traditional values.

The symposium aimed to review the piloted period of happy cool in Thua Thien Hue province, share lessons learned and report assessment made by Hue University of Education; acknowledge the progress and further promote happiness school project in Vietnam; publish documents summarizing scientific research and lessons learned; establish international network of scientists and practitioner; encourage policy makers to figure out vital methods to include the peace and happiness of students and teachers in policies as well as strategies adopted by education sector.
Within the framework of happy school project, a teacher training program was piloted and supported from grade 1 to grade 12. Based on lessons learned, the symposium will focus on “Happiness skills” in education including attention, social emotion learning, emotional intelligence and sustainable education.
The symposium brought participants opportunities to hear from domestic and international scientists, policy makers, conductors and evaluators to have a comprehensive insight into mental health in education and school system; join in workshop with domestic and international coordinators; connect with organizations and experts far and near.
