At the meeting, Secretary Le Truong Luu and delegates discussed local socio-economic matters. Currently, the province is focusing on preparing documents required to ensure that A Luoi district would be no longer classified as a national poor district. In 2024, the province has made effort to reach the poverty rate of 1,76%.

Urban infrastructure is invested, constructed and upgraded. Important mechanisms, proposals and planning are approved. In addition to improved investment and business environment, administrative procedures are reformed.

The province has completed documents and submitted them to competent agencies so that the National Assembly would approve and issue the resolution on establishing centrally managed city in the 8th session of National Assembly tenure 15th.

Speaking at the meeting, Secretary Le Truong Luu expected that Thua Thien Hue would become a centrally managed city. Also the role, position of diplomacy including the friendly cooperative relation between Thua Thien Hue and Savannakhet province would be comprehensively developed.

Based on the cooperation agreement in 2022-2026 signed in December 2022, Thua Thien Hue has provided Vietnamese training and college training for 1.449 Laotian oversea students including 248 students from Savannakhet province. At present, there are 35 Savannakhet students studying in Hue.

In terms of short-term training, a course was given to 60 officers from south central Laos in December 2023. Besides, an intermediate politics training course is being offered to 49 officers including Savannakhet officers.

In the coming time, the two sides would effectively implement cooperative agreement in 2022-2026 period; strengthen cooperation in politics and diplomacy; improve the cooperative relation in all fields, particularly tourism, trade and investment; effectively exploit East-west economic corridor between Thailand, Laos and Vietnam.

Secretary Le Truong Luu kindly requested Savannakhet province to inform businesses which are interested in exploiting and using services available at Chan May sea port to diversify goods. This way, Thua Thien Hue and Savannakhet would have more opportunities to expand exportation. The leader of Thua Thien Hue province hoped to create favorable condition for local employees to live and work in Savannakhet on the basis of complying to regulations of the host country.

Secretary cum Mayor of Savannakhet province agreed with what Secretary Le Truong Luu informed to the delegation. Secretary cum Mayor of Savannakhet province highly appreciated what the two parties joined hand, current problems and difficulties to be solved. The leader of Savannakhet province hoped that Thua Thien Hue would support Savannakhet in agricultural production and rural development. Savannakhet province would facilitate Vietnamese employees including Thua Thien Hue locals while living in Savannakhet province.
