Xuan Hoa communal house is a typical architecture constructed by the Huong river. Thanks to villagers, the communal house is preserved over nearly 200 years without losing local typical values.

Xuan Hoa communal house (so-called Ha Khe under the reign of Le Mac) has gone through ups and downs. By the 17th century, this area is located by Kim Long which was called “thanh pho lon” (the big city) by Alexandre de Rhodes (1591-1666). In the end of 18th century, when Nguyen Hue dominated Phu Xuan (1976), the communal house became a center for politics to support Tay Son movement.

It was in this area that Hue Museum discovered a stone stele carved with “Ho huong Tay Son khoi” covered under layers of soil. According to a “Dinh ba” (document) stored at the village, villagers joined in defeating Trinh Lords (1786) and Thanh dynasty (1789). During the August Revolution (1945), the resistance against French and American empire, the communal house witnessed many meaningful historical events showing local patriotism, for example the general uprising on August 23, 1945, the first Assembly election of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam on January 6, 1946, explosives installation to destroy the Assembly election box of Saigon government in June, 1965.

The special feature held by Xuan Hoa communal house is the fact that it witnessed stages in the development of Hue. As Lord Nguyen Phuc Lan relocated the main residence to Ha Khe and renamed the place as Kim Long residence. Back then, Xuan Hoa lost its rural feature, became a surburb. Over 1500 Sino-Vietnamese pages available at the village allow researcher to learn more about Nguyen lord, Tay Son reign and Nguyen dynasty.

In addition to historical values, Xuan Hoa communal house is appreciated in terms of culture, particularly traditional wooden structure, relics associated with ruong house (a kind of wooden house with three compartments and 2 wings). Decoration samples are associated with the arts under Nguyen dynasty in 19th century and local traditional crafts such as wood carving, ceramic inlay. The harmony created in the structure over decades shows the skillfulness of craftsmen. Decorative patterns were skillful and highly appreciated in aesthetics value.

Xuan Hoa communal house is dedicated to worship village founders, creating an invisible connection among villagers and strengthen local solidarity. Besides, it is a center for cultural and social practices.

With typical historical and cultural values, Xuan Hoa communal house holds a crucial position in Hue royal architecture, associates with Hue monument complex and human cultural heritage.

Xuan Hoa communal house was recognized as a province-level historical cultural relic on Decision No. 607/QD-UBND on March 17, 2011.
