On November 26, 2024, the People’s Committee of Thua Thien Hue province passed decision No. 3040/QĐ-UBND and decision No. 3041/QĐ-UBND to recognize Bao Vinh blacksmith (Huong Vinh ward, Hue city) and Kim Long ginger jam making (Kim Long ward, Hue city) as traditional crafts.
Ginger jam making is a traditional craft which has been familiar to Hue locals for hundreds years since Nguyen dynasty. Kim Long was considered as the most famous. Made from ginger grown in Tuan junction, Kim Long ginger jam is offered to ancestors on offering ceremony. It is an unreplaceable part in Tet holiday and is deeply ingrained in Hue culture. Nowadays, the craft has unceasingly developed.
Bao Vinh blacksmith is from Hien Luong village which has been well-known for blacksmith and traditional iron making for generations. People have gradually settled down and produced tools serving daily activities and agricultural production. The craft has been associated with the cultural life of Bao Vinh locals, Huong Vinh ward, Thua Thien Hue province ever since.
