Established in 1905, the school was formerly named "Thua Thien France - Vietnam" School. In 1923, France – Vietnam Dong Ba Primary School was moved to the location of Gia Hoi school today. Its former address is flower garden on Phan Dang Luu street today.
From 1906 to 1908, President Ho Chi Minh studied in France - Vietnam Dong Ba Primary School. Attending the school, students were taught subjects including Vietnamese, Chinese, maths, history, geography and science.
There are 5 tile-roofed classrooms which were roofed with 1,5m wide and 40m long glass panel to get natural light. There were 1,5m wide corridor and 0,8m high railing. The school was surrounded by a large yard where tropical almonds and Alexandrian laurel were grown.
Today, Ho Chi Minh Museum of Thua Thien Hue province was constructed in former position of the school to save the footprint of President Ho Chi Minh during the time he studied in France - Vietnam Dong Ba Primary School.
France - Vietnam Dong Ba Primary School was recognized as provincial relic at Decision No. 2460/QĐ-UBND.
