On December 4, 2024, Mr. Vo Le Nhat – the standing member of the provincial Party Committee, Deputy Secretary of Hue City’s Party Committee, Chairman of Hue City’s People’s Committee chaired a meeting with a delegation from Luang Prabang city (Lao People’s Democratic Republic - Lao PDR) headed by Mr. Viengthong Hatsachanh – the Standing Member of the provincial Party Committee, Deputy Secretary of the City’s Party Committee, Chairman of Luang Prabang city.
Luang Prabang, Laos’ former capital was recognized as world cultural heritage in 1995. This place is home to unique architecture which is associated with Buddhist culture, the famous pagoda called Wat Xiengthong, palaces, shrines, etc. These monuments are located by the Mekong river, Namkhan river and majestic Kuangsi waterfall.

According to Mr. Vo Le Nhat, Hue city and Luang Prabang are enthusiastic members of international urban associations. Leaders of the two cities met at the congress of the Association Internationale des Maires Francophones – AIMF held in Ivory Coast in 2021, World Heritage Conference Asia – Pacific (OWHC-AP) 2023 held in Korea. As the two cities share common things in heritage and culture, they expect to establish friendly, close-knit and cooperative relation in economy, culture and education.
Luang Prabang was the capital of Lan Xang Kingdom in 1354. It is located at the junction between the Mekong and Nam Ou river, about 300km away from Vientiane city (Lao PDR). Its current population is about 56.000. In local language, Luang means village while Pralang means the golden Buddha.
