Thua Thien Hue History Museum is a public non-business unit managed by Culture and Sports Department. The museum is in charge of researching, disseminating and educating science through museum-related activities as well as conserve local tangible and intangible heritages in history and culture. It was recently recognized as a second-class museum.
Thua Thien Hue History Museum today was formerly known as Binh Tri Thien Museum which was founded in August 1976 after the infrastructure, artifacts and the staff of Tri Thien Hue military zone museum and Quang Binh traditional house were transferred to Binh Tri Thien province (the former name of Thua Thien Hue province today). During its history, the museum had several names such as Binh Tri Thien Museum (1976), Thua Thien Hue General Museum (1989) and History and Revolution Museum (2005). It was not until 2016 that the museum was renamed as Thua Thien Hue History Museum pursuant to decision 1564/QD-UBND dated July 8th, 2016 of the people’s Committee of Thua Thien Hue province.
Thua Thien Hue History Museum is currently based at Quoc Tu Giam (the imperial Academy – the first national university of Nguyen Dynasty)
At present, Thua Thien Hue History Museum is based at Quoc Tu Giam (the imperial Academy – the first national university of Nguyen Dynasty) 1 August 23rd street, Thuan Thanh ward, Hue city. The exhibition system consists of three sections:
1. “Phong trao dau tranh cach mang va cuoc khang chien chong thuc dan Phap o Thua Thien Hue, giai doan 1930-1954”. (revolutionary movement and the resistance against French colonists in Thua Thien Hue province between 1930 and 1954).
2. “Cuoc khang chien chong My cuu nuoc o Thua Thien Hue giai doan 1954-1975”.
(The resistance against American imperialists in Thua Thien Hue between 1954 and 1975)
3. Cac hien vat the khoi lon (da di doi len dia chi so 268 Dien Bien Phu, thanh pho Hue)

Besides, museum’s artifacts are being on display at four relics namely the memorial house of Comrade Nguyen Chi Dieu (Phu Mau commune, Hue city); Phan Boi Chau relic (Truong An ward, Hue city); Central Vietnam Party Executive Committee (114 Phan Dang Luu, Hue city), the historical relic called “the nine bunkers” and Ngo Dinh Can house (An Tay ward, Hue city). In addition, there is a system of warehouses where over 30.000 valuable documents, artifacts and collections are being stored.
