The establishment of Thanh Thuy Chanh village hall
Thanh Thuy Chanh village and Thuy Thanh commune are localities where great patriotic and revolutionary tradition are observed. In this peaceful land, many revolutionary movements occurred, contributing to the heroic record of Huong Thuy district and Thua Thien Hue province. Thanh Thuy Chanh village hall witnessed major historical revolutionary events.
In the early days of the August Revolution 1945, many important events were held at the village hall, for example introducing commune party cell and revolutionary organizations such as "Nong hoi do" (Red Farmer Association), "Thanh Nien Cong san Doan" (Communist Youth Association) and "Phu nu phan de" (the early name of women union). It later became the headquarters of the Contemporary Revolution Committee and the place where guerrilla militia prepared for the uprising. On August 20th, 1945, a meeting in which new village authority was established took place, contributing to overthrow feudal colonist government.
During the struggle against American colonist, the village hall became a place where soldiers practiced and stored weapon in preparation for Dong Khoi movement in 1964. On October 31st, 1964, after a meeting, villagers together with citizens across the commune struggled to liberate the entire commune.
During Mau Than uprising 1968, local guerrilla militia collaborated with Huong Thuy district's soldiers to defeat the opponent's battalion 39. In 1975 spring, a part of Huong Thuy district's campaign steering committee which is in charge of guiding soldiers to liberate Hue stayed at the village hall.
Together with villagers, Thanh Thuy Chanh village hall contributed to upholding patriotic tradition, the strong spirit of Thanh Thuy Chanh villagers during the struggle for national independence and reunification. As the country is now developing in the age of industrialization and modernizations, transformations are also observed in village’s economy, culture and society.
Thanh Thuy Chanh village hall was renovated in 1972 and 2005.
Relic description
Thanh Thuy Chanh village hall is situated at CDK plot of land. It consist of crescent lake, entrance gate, wall, guarding screen, yard and village hall. In addition, the foundation of "nha tang" which was collapsed in wartime still can be found.
Currently, a number of artifacts are being stored at the village hall. They are three large wooden altars, 4 horizontal lacquered boards, 6 pairs of wooden couplets, two sets of eight weapons, a drum, items used for offering ceremony such as flower vase, incense burner, etc.
Festivals and cultural activities held at the village hall
Upholding "Ly huong bat ly to" tradition, a board which was assigned to organize meetings and maintain traditional offering ceremony in the village was founded. On special occasions such as the seventh lunar month, spring offering ceremony, autumn offering ceremony, lunar new years, villagers far and near gathered together at the village hall to pay tribute to ancestors, recall local fine tradition and join hand for a better village.
Relic value
Early founded in Thuan Hoa, Thanh Thuy Chanh village went through ups and downs, but still preserves Vietnamese traditional culture. Village hall, pagoda, shrines, clan house, etc are associated with offering ceremony, ho ve (folk singing) and folk games. Thanh Thuy Chanh village is home to Thanh Toan tile roofed bridge, a national architecture relic. The architecture was appreciated in both cultural value and architecture.
The village hall plays an important role in Thanh Thuy Chanh village. For locals, it is a sacred place to commemorate ancestors who founded the village, pray for peace and happiness. It is also a place where locals gathered together and conserve precious traditional values. Festivities and other public events are annually held to uphold local gratitude tradition.
Despite its moderate size, this village hall depicts Hue traditional Ruong house. Wooden structure and decorative patterns partly reflected the expectation for peace, favorable weather condition and prosperity.
During the revolution against French and American colonists, Thanh Thuy Chanh village was not only the headquarter of the Revolution Committee, but also observed important revolutionary events, for example the meeting in 1945, the introducing ceremony of local Party cells and revolutionary organizations. Thanh Thuy Chanh not only houses fine traditional tangible and intangible cultural values, but also educates generations of patriotism, revolutionary spirit and the sacrifice of ancestors. Therefore, the young are now aware of their responsibility in maintaining and promoting historic values, traditional culture of the ancestor, solidarity and making effort for happiness and a better home land.
On March 21st, 2011, the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province issued decision no. 653/QD-UBND on recognizing Thanh Thuy Chanh village hall (Thuy Thanh commune, Huong Thuy town) as a province-level art and architecture relic.
