(TTH Portals) – On November 5, 2024, book “Ham Nghi - Hoang de luu vong, nghe si o Alger” (Ham Nghi-Exiled Emperor, Artist in Alger) was introduced at Duyet Thi Duong Royal Theater, Hue Imperial city by Hue Monuments Conservation Center. The Standing Member of the Party Committee of Thua Thien Hue province, Vice Permanent Chairman of the People’s Committee of Thua Thien Hue province Nguyen Thanh Binh, leader representatives of department, agencies, L'Institut français, Hue researchers; Ms. Amandine Dabat - the author, speaker, History and Arts Doctor, the 5th descendant of Emperor Ham Nghi attended the book launch seminar. The event is a part of events held to celebrate Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day, November 23.
“Ham Nghi - Hoang de luu vong, nghe si o Alger” is written by doctor Amandine Dabat, the 5th descendant of Emperor Ham Nghi – the great grand-daughter of Princess Nhu Ly (Emperor Ham Nghi’s daughter). She is the doctor of art and history (Sorbonne University) and Vietnam Study master (Paris 7-Diderot University). In 2015, she successfully completed doctorate dissertation themed “Ham Nghi - Hoang de luu vong, nghe si o Alger” at French National Institute of History and Arts (Paris). The book is about the life and career of Emperor Ham Nghi who is described as a patriotic Emperor and a talented writer while he was in France and Alger. The book discovers the art of the Emperor, a field not widely known by the public. Emperor Ham Nghi was one of the artists marking special milestone in Vietnamese modern fineart.

The book launch seminar is one of the efforts made to conserve and promote cultural and art values of Hue heritages. It is a chance to introduce Vietnamese culture, bring young generation opportunity to learn more about the history and art values of Vietnam as well as spread the love for music and national culture.

Within the event, descendants of Emperor Ham Nghi presented valuable artifacts of Emperor Ham Nghi to Hue Royal Antiquities Museum. They are the wooden tray with mother-of-pearl inlay “Ngu che canh chuc do” book (2 volumes); “Dan do huyen chi” book (26 volumes); “Tang dinh thi kinh the chi dien nghia” book (5 volumes); a pair of royal chopsticks made from Walrus Tusk which was given to Ms. Phan Thi Hoa by Empress Tu Du during the meal with Emperor Ham Nghi (Can Vuong period 1885 – 1889); a pair of ceramic tea cup with lid - a household item of Emperor Ham Nghi’s family. These artifacts are clear evidences for ups and downs in Vietnam history. They show the gratitude of Emperor’s descendants to ancestors and contribute to strengthening the cultural exchange between Vietnam and foreign countries in further.
