About 500 million years ago, the territory of Thua Thien Hue province today was the sea bed. Over a long process of deposition and compression, the continent of Thua Thien Hue today was formed.
Thua Thien Hue geological structure consists of 16 stratigraphic units and 7 intrusive magma complexes. Types of magma stone, metamorphic rock and sedimentary rock are located in the west, southwest and south of the province. They account for 3/4 of the natural area while unconsolidated deposit occupies for a quarter of the area and is mainly found in coastal delta. These stones create a variety of natural resources such as minerals, soil and underground water. As these stones are located in a complex steep and separated terrain, no resource or mineral is found in large amount.
