Vietnam - Laos friendship and solidarity strengthened

On April 21, 2023, the member of Central Party Committee, Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, Head of the National Assembly delegation of Thua Thien Hue province, Chairman of the provincial People’s Council Le Truong Luu had a meeting with the head of the Commission for External Relations of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party Central Committee Thongsavanh Phomvihane and Head of the Party Central Committee's Commission for External Relations Le Hoai Trung.

Thua Thien Hue is one of the ten localities sharing the border with Laos localities (Salavan and Sekong province). Along the nearly 80km border, there are 2 national borders called A Dot - Ta Vang and Hong Van - Co Tai.

With a view to continue the traditional friendship and special solidarity between Vietnam and Laos, Thua Thien Hue has unceasingly made effort to strengthen the relation with localities located in the central and south of Laos. Particularly, the relation of Thua Thien Hue, Salavan and Sekong has been tightened.

In addition to health care, martyr’s remains gathering, national defense - security exchange and border protection, Thua Thien Hue has provided Vietnamese training and territory education for over 1.000 students from South Central localities of Laos. Currently, there are more than 400 Laos overseas studying in Thua Thien Hue province. The budget spent on this is nearly VND 7 billion.

So far, Thua Thien Hue has implemented 5 programs and projects to support Laos localities. The total investment fund anticipated was about VND 33,5 billion. At present, Thua Thien Hue is preparing documents regarding to providing construction support for “Salavan - Thua Thien Hue Friendship Culture House” project to propose to Prime Minister. The funding of about VND 8 billion is to be taken from Thua Thien Hue budget.

Deputy Secretary Le Truong Luu kindly requested the Commission for External Relations of Vietnam and Laos to create favorable condition for Thua Thien Hue and localities located in South Central Laos to carry out agreements signed. The provincial leader expected Laos to take priority over provinces sharing the border to invest in transportation infrastructure and promote trade between border gates and Thua Thien Hue province. By doing these, social and economic situation in this area is improved.

Mr. Le Truong Luu hoped that the local border gate will be soon upgraded as national border gate. Besides, Laos businesses will invest in the 20km-long road from Laos to Hong Van border gate. This improves the exchange of goods via Hong Van border gate, better exploits Chan May sea port, benefits local budget, develops the economy in east -west economic corridor, etc.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Le Hoai Trung emphasized the importance of the special solidarity between Vietnam and Laos. The Head of Party Central Committee's Commission for External Relations affirmed that Thua Thien Hue made its best to maintain and tighten the bilateral relation, contributing to the stability and development of each country.

Mr. Thoongsavanh Phomvihane extended his sincere thank to Thua Thien Hue for establishing the fine relation with Laos localities, particular Se Kong and Salavan as well as the support given to Laos. The Head of Commission for External Relations of LPRP Central Committee expects to observe further support from Thua Thien Hue province. The representative of Lao Commission for External Relations of LPRP Central Committee extended his pleasure to observe the strengthened solidarity and affirmed that bilateral relation is considered as the top importance in Laos diplomatic policies.

Mr. Thoongsavanh Phomvihane affirmed that Laos would collaborate with Vietnam Party Central Committee's Commission for External Relations to effectively carry out agreement between the senior leaders of the two Parties as well as cooperation agreement between the Commission for External Relations of the two countries. The Head of Commission for External Relations of LPRP Central Committee believed that Laos - Vietnam special solidarity will be developed, strengthened, and became more effective and practical in fields.
