Duc Duc tomb (An tomb) is the place where three generations including Emperor Duc Duc (father), Emperor Thanh Thai (son) and Emperor Duy Tan (cousin) rested in peace.
Compared to other Nguyen dynasty's tombs, Duc Duc tomb's architecture is much more simple and moderate. Its two main parts are Long An palace and the tomb of the Emperor and Empress. They both considered Phuoc Qua islet in front as "tien an" (guarding screen), Mu Niem river as "minh duong" and Tam Thai mountain behind as "hau cham".
The rectangular tomb covers the area of 3.445m2. Unlike other tombs, there are no Bi Dinh (stele house) and stone statues in Duc Duc tomb. Visiting this relic, tourists must enter two cement roofed three-entrance gates. As a replacement to "nha bia" (stele house), there is a Huynh Oc house in front of Buu Thanh. Inside Huynh Oc house, there is a stone platform and a stone coach instead of "bi ky" (stelae). It is where people placed altars and prepared for offering ceremony. The tomb of Emperor Duc Duc and Empress Tu Minh are on the left and the right.
Situated at the center of the tomb, Long An was built as a palace in Hue. There are three altars where the spirit tablets of Emperor Duc Duc and his wife (at the middle), Emperor Thanh Thai (to the left) and Emperor Duy Tan (to the right) are worshipped.
Emperor Thanh Thai and Emperor Duy Tan who dared to exchange their thrones for national independence and sovereignty rested in peace behind Long An palace. Emperor Thanh Thai's wives and relatives were also buried at the campus of Duc Duc tomb. They are Nguyen Gia Thi Anh, Nguyen Thi Dinh (the mother of Emperor Duy Tan), Khoan Phi Ho Thi Phuong, princess Luong Linh (the sister of Emperor Duy Tan), Mai Thi Vang (the wife of Emperor Duy Tan) and Emperor Duy Tan's relatives.
There are 39 tombs of lord and madams and 121 tombs of Nguyen Phuc clan at An Lang tomb.
Duc Duc tomb was recognized as national relic (art architecture) on Decision 2890-VH/QD dated September 27th, 1997 of the Ministry of Culture and Information.
