An overview to minerals, underground water and mineral water resources

Thua Thien Hue province is home to 120 mines of 25 minerals, underground water resources which distribute thoroughly in province. Of all, non-metallic minerals and construction materials not only have high economic value, but also account for a considerable proportion.

Regards to energy mineral, peat is local main energy mineral distributing from the North of Phong Dien district to the South of Phu Loc district. Peat mines in Phong Chuong commune (Phong Dien district) come in large reserve and high quality. As estimated, the reserve of peat mines located in Phong Chuong commune is up to 5 million. Thua Thien Hue peat whose humus amount accounts for 50% and humic acid amount accounts for 30-40%. At present, local peat resource is being used to process microbial organic fertilizer.

Metalic mineral group include iron, titanium, lead, zinc, gold, tin, etc. Non-metalic minerals and construction materials including pyrite, phosphorite, kaolin, clay, granite, gabbro, limestone, gravels and construction sand are the most potential resources in Thua Thien Hue province. Due to geological structure, Thua Thien Hue has a competitive advantage in cement industry. The majority of non-metalic minerals is being exploited. Mining industry and construction material manufacture are becoming an important industry of Thua Thien Hue province.

Thua Thien Hue province is also home to various underground water sources such as fresh water and hot mineral water. These sources are distributed pretty thoroughly across the province. The most potential underground water sources found in Thua Thien Hue province are Phong Chuong commune, Phong Hien commune (Phong Dien district), Quang Loi commune (Quang Dien district), Phong Son commune (Phong Dien district), Tu Ha townlet, Huong Tra district, Phu Bai townlet and Huong Thuy district (today Huong Thuy town). The total reserve of underground water in these areas reached nearly 9.200m3/day. Its water reserve, dense water system and various surface water allow Thua Thien Hue province to avoid severe and long droughts. 

Seven hot springs sources can be used to drink and healthcare distributed in mountainous areas. Of all, the three hot springs are Thanh Tan, My An and A Roang. Located at Phong Son commune, Phong Dien district, Thanh Tan hot springs was discovered in 1928. Thanh Tan hot springs is a silicon mineral water. Its highest temperature is 69°C. After being treated, Thanh Tan hot springs water products come in various labels and are consumed across Vietnam. Thanh Tan has become a prestigious trademark in Vietnam. Thanh Tan hot springs located on Truong Tien range. It is being exploited as an ecological tourism center resort, health rehabilation attracting far and near tourists.

My An hot springs located at Phu Duong commune, Phu Vang district was discovered in 1979. Its main chemical composition is Clorua Bicacbonat Natri. Its flow is 1.590m3/day and temperature 54°C. Located near Hue city, My An hot springs was developed as tourist site. Ta Lai or Aka are the two hot springs found in A Roang commune, A Luoi district in 1980. After Ho Chi Minh road was completed, they were exploited for tourist purpose. A Roang hot springs has low mineral level and medium temperature (50°C). Bicacbonat Natri is its main chemical composition.
