Thuyen Lam pagoda is situated in 78B Dien Bien Phu street, Hue city. At first, the pagoda was established in Binh An hamlet by Khac Huyen Lao To in the 17th century.

At the invitation of Lord Nguyen Phuc Chu, Chinese Venerable Thach Liem (Thich Dai San) arrived Vietnam in 1965 and organized ordination ceremony in Thuyen Lam pagoda. Venerable Lieu Quan, who was studying in Ham Long pagoda, also attended the ceremony. Lord Nguyen and mandarins including Nguyen Huu Canh took refuge in this Buddha Birthday.

Later, Lord Nguyen had Thien Mu pagoda renovated to host Venerable Thach Liem. Under Tay Son reign, Thai Su Bui Dac Tuyen took over the pagoda. In late 19th century, the pagoda was moved to current position due to road expansion. This place of worship was left abandoned for a long time before monk Chon Tri from Tuong Van pagoda was appointed as the abbot of Thuyen Lam pagoda in 1990. Today, a number of ancient wooden architectures still can be found at Thuyen Lam pagoda.
