Dieu Vien, a Mahayana Buddhist pagoda is situated in Ngu Phong Mountain, Thuy Duong ward, Huong Thuy town, Thua Thien Hue province, about 5km from Hue city.

Known as the first pagoda for nuns in Hue, Dieu Vien was established by layperson Ho Thi The Anh, Nguyen Thi Khuong and other Buddhist followers in 1924. At their invitation, Madam Huong Dao became the founder of the pagoda. In late 1926, Emperor Bao Dai gave the pagoda the name board “Dieu vien su nu tu”.

Dieu Vien was the place where many charitable activities were carried out. In 1958, the pagoda produced soya sauce, incense and print cake (also called seal cake). One year later, a hospital where the poor were offered free healthcare services and medicine was founded. In 1960, a nursing home was established for the old and people with disabilities. In 1962, a sewing unit is founded for local youths. A free school was also founded for the visually impaired in the same year. In 1965, Lam Ty Ni kindergarten was opened. In 1966, another construction called Cong Thanh Truc dong Quan The Am was built.

Dieu Vien pagoda was renovated and expanded in 1929, 1953, 1962 and 2001. Activities carried out at the pagoda prove have brought happiness to locals.
