On June 24th, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province Nguyen Van Phuong chaired a diplomacy meeting for Ms. Maricelle (Bells) Regino-Borja, the Country Director of Habitat for Humanity Vietnam. Vice Chairman and delegates discussed about social security, environment, natural disaster prevention and mitigation in the province.

At the meeting, Ms. Maricelle Regino-Borja extended his sincere thanks to provincial leaders for spending time working with the delegation. As informed by the Country Director, Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is an international non-governmental organization supports house construction, clean water, environmental sanitation, disaster preparedness and resilience. At present, HFHI is being run in over 70 countries.

HFHI has been active in Vietnam since 2001. By the end of 2019, the Organization enabled over 16.000 low-income households to improve their living standard through houses, clean water, safe sanitation, post-disaster reconstruction and repairs. More than 138 thousand people attended HFHI's training courses in disaster preparedness, hygiene practices and construction skills. In the time to come, HFHI would continue these above-mentioned activities in localities across Vietnam. In this attempt, the Organization expected to deploy activities in Thua Thien Hue province.

Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province Nguyen Van Phuong highly appreciated HFHI's activities in Vietnam over the past 20 years. Vice Chairman emphasized that Thua Thien Hue is willing to cooperate with HFHI in implementing social security programs  especially, those on houses, clean water and safe sanitation for poor households living in rural, mountainous and disadvantaged areas, contributing to decrease local current poverty rate (4,17%). The leader representative hoped that HFHI programs would be implemented in Thua Thien Hue province.
