At the launching ceremony
On September 11th, 2022 morning, municipal solid waste segregation was launched at Thuong Bac park by the People's Committee of Hue city and the World Wide Fund for Nature in Vietnam (WWF - Viet Nam). Mr. Phan Quy Phuong - the member of the Standing Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province, Mr. Tran Hung Nam - the Deputy Secretary of Hue city's Party Committee and Mr. Vo Le Nhat - the Chairman of the People's Committee of Hue city attended the ceremony.

The first phase of the program is carried out as the amount of waste generated keeps increasing, resulting in environmental and urban problems. Within the framework of "Hue - plastic smart city in Central Vietnam" project, WWF - Vietnam offered 156 sets of municipal solid waste bins which were already placed in some public sites. In addition, Hue city placed an extra of 148 municipal solid waste bins at the headquarters of agencies/schools located in 23 wards across Hue city.

Municipal solid waste segregation aims to raise the public awareness of environmental protection, help organizations/individuals to form waste segregation habit, solve plastic pollution and manage plastic waste, instruct organizations/individuals to segregate, store and place wastes as regulated, etc. Municipal solid waste must be segregated at source to recycle, reuse, reduce the risk of releasing hazardous waste into the environment, improve the efficiency of State management system for municipal solid waste as well as make contribution to protecting the environment.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Vice Chairman of Hue city's People's Committee Tran Song emphasized that agencies, organizations, households and individuals should join hand to segregate municipal solid wastes at source to protect the environment, reuse, recycle and reduce the risk of releasing hazardous waste into the environment, accelerate "Chu nhat xanh" (Green Sunday) project for a green - clean - bright – intelligently operated - environmentally-friendly Hue city and public sustainable benefit.
