On January 1st 2023 morning, the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province announced Hue Festival 2023 program. The festival was kicked off by replicating "Le Ban Soc" the calendar book distribution ceremony used to be held under Nguyen dynasty. The Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province Nguyen Van Phuong; the standing member of the provincial Party Committee, Chairman of Vietnam Fatherland Front Nguyen Nam Tien; Vice Permanent Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Binh attended the event.
Thua Thien Hue is the first province to organize a contemporary event which is known far and near. Over 22 years, Hue Festival has become one of the globe-wide festivals which attracted public attention. Hue Festival has unceasingly defined its role and position.
This year, the festival will focus on celebrating 30 years since Hue Monument Complex was recognized as world cultural heritage, 20 years since Hue royal court music was recognized as a masterpiece of intangible cultural heritage of humanity. Besides, activities will be co-held by the province and the Embassy to celebrate the diplomatic relations between Vietnam and foreign countries.
Based on achievements gained and experience learned, the organizer will continue to hold folk festivals, royal festivals, religious festivals and traditional festivals. Besides, new programs will also be developed, which meets the demand of the public and contributes to socio-economic development.

Speaking at the event, Vice Permanent Chairman Nguyen Thanh Binh kindly informed that Hue Festival 2023 themed “Cultural heritage with integration and development” will bring together over 50 main activities and 100 sideline activities organized in four seasons, namely “Xuan Co do”; “Kinh thanh toa sang”; “Hue vao thu”; “Mua dong xu Hue” performed by domestic and international art troupes. They not only represent for the cultural identity of regions and countries, but also honor and advertise Hue’s distinctive culture, the land of seven UNESCO-recognized heritages.
According to the Vice Permanent Chairman, Hue Festival 2023 will continue to show an innovative spirit, diversify festivals and attract the participation of the public; accelerate the contribution of the public in Hue Festival; combine festivities with tourism products; introduce Hue cultural quintessence, advertise Hue as a beautiful, safe, friendly destination as well as a festival city; develop Thua Thien Hue into a centrally managed city on the basis of conserving and promoting heritage values and Hue cultural identity in accordance with Resolution 54 of the Politburo.
Hue Festival 2023 schedule:
– “Xuan Co do” (from January to March): continue to hold royal festival, traditional festival and folk festivals. Hue Festival 2023 is kicked off by program announcement ceremony and Nguyen dynasty's calendar book distribution ceremony. “Le hoi Hoang mai” will be organized for the first time from January 9 to January 19, 2023 to develop Thua Thien Hue into the land of yellow apricot blossom in Vietnam.
– “Kinh thanh toa sang” (from April to June): Hue traditional craft festival themed “Vietnamese craft quintessence”, which will be held from April 28 to May 5, 2023 and activities marking 30 years since Hue Monuments Complex was recognized as heritage by UNESCO and 20 years since Hue Royal court music was recognized as heritage by UNESCO.
– “Hue vao thu” (from July to September): Aodai festival, public aodai week, mid-autumn festival such as lantern festival, lion dance festival, exhibitions, lantern parade, lion dance parade, etc.
– “Mua Dong xu Hue” (from October to December): “Mua Dong xu Hue” creates a joyful atmosphere and brings visitors interesting experience during staying in Hue. The international music festival and new year countdown program are the two main highlights.
