Pursuant to Decision No. 772/QD-TTg dated June 26th, 2018 of the Prime Minister, the 2019 Population and Housing Census was conducted in the Socialist Republic of Vietnam from April 1st, 2019 to April 25th, 2019. According to the Central Census Steering Committee, Thua Thien Hue province ranks first in North Central region and fifth among 63 provinces/cities country wide in the 2019 Population and Housing Census.

Being one of the leading localities in information technology application in administrative and social management, Thua Thien Hue province deployed the 2019 Population and Housing Census via the internet and mobile devices.

In 2019, the province established the Provincial Census Steering Committees and Offices, 9 District Census Steering Committes and Offices, 152 Commune Census Steering Committees. Among 2.227 participants, there are 1.071 enumerators. The Census was conducted in 2.468 localities including 496 specialized localities.

There are 305.905 households joining in the Census. Among 1.128.620 people, male population accounts for 49,5% (558.531 people) while female population accounts for 50,5% (570.132). The number of people living in urban and rural areas is 558.531 and 570.089, respectively. Local population density is 224 people per km2, which accounts for 77,2% of the average population density countrywide. The percentage of permanent and semi-permanent housings accounts for 98,2%. The average housing area is 23,7m2 per capita, which equals to country-wide average data.
