With the total budget of over VND 65 billion, the project aimed to develop Hue into a plastic smart city which classifies, handles 70% solid waste and collects recycled waste from landfills in 2024.
In 2030, river system and wetland ecosystems will be protected from plastic pollution via plastic smart city program, collective efforts of key stakeholders from public-private sectors, social organizations and local communities.
Divided into 2 phases, the project will be conducted from 2021 to 2024. In its first phase, the project will study current solid waste management situation. Special focus will be taken on plastic waste in Hue city, laying a foundation for the next phase. Hue city will sign an agreement on developing Hue into a plastic smart city. During the 2nd phase, Hue city will be supported in conducting the action plan on developing Hue into a plastic smart city. Consumption demand and the discharge of plastic waste will be reduced in targeted groups. The percentage of families accessing to waste collecting services will be raised in targeted areas. Improvements will also be made in the percentage of garbage recycled in main stakeholders and dump management quality.
