Phu Loc has the area of 1.368,23 km2, population of 180.606 and 27 administrative units including 23 communes and 4 townlets (according to Resolution No. 1314/NQ-UBTVQH15 dated November 30, 2024 of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on the rearrangement of district- and commune-level  administrative unis in Hue city for 2023 – 2025 period). The district borders with Huong Thuy town and Phu Vang district to the north, Da Nang city to the south and the East Sea to the east.

Phu Loc district is located in the south of Hue city. It is easily accessible by the national road 1A, the north - south railway and La Son - Tuy Loan high way. The district has over 60km coastline with famous beaches such as Ham Rong, Canh Duong, Lang Co - world beautiful bay and Bai Chuoi beach. Chan May seaport is one of the essential sea gates of the East - West economic corridor. It is capable of receiving ships of over 50.000 DWT and yachts with over 5.000 people on board.

In addition to sea potential, Phu Loc also has many natural resources such as Cau Hai - Lang Co lagoon, 34.000 hectares of natural forest in Truong Son range, natural scenery, particularly Bach Ma National Park. The district is home to many tourist spots attracting far and near visitors such as Hai Van Gate, Bach Ma National Park, Bach Ma zen monastery, Thanh Duyen pagoda, etc.

On the basis of its coastline and lagoon, Phu Loc considers fishery as its main economic sector in an attempt to enhance the living standard of over 65% locals living in the coastal and lagoon area. Nowadays, Phu Loc has not only exploited, but also processed and consumed its seafood. For example, Phu An fish sauce was a local product from Vinh Hien commune. Efforts were also made to attract investors to Chan May - Lang Co economic zone and La Son industrial zone. Vinh Hung technical infrastructure was constructed to attract projects, particularly those on clean industry, auxiliary industry and high technology. Besides, the district planned and developed handicraft villages, for instance, Loc Thuy Cajeput oil, and Loc Mai fig tea, etc.

In the past time, local infrastructure has been unceasingly improved. Many structures were completed, for example, Chan May seaport, Hai Van tunnel, Tu Hien bridge, Lang Co bridge, road along Lap An lagoon, projects on urban transportation, electricity, water and irrigation, etc. Chan May - Lang Co economic zone has gradually been completed and prepared itself to become Chan May city in the near future.

Based on local geographical advantages and natural resources, Phu Loc is expected to continue promoting its social-economic development, ensure national defense and security. It is anticipated that the district will become a southern dynamic economic region, one of the major center for tourism and services of the Central economic region and Central Vietnam.
