Rice paper is a "dried provision" created in preparation for the operation to the north of Tay Son soldiers. Nowadays, it is still a typical dish of people living in Central Vietnam.

Essential things needed to make rice paper are a stove, a cloth that's stretched over a wide pot of boiling water, a dipper, a long narrow stick used to lift and transfer rice sheet and drying racks.

To make delicious rice paper, there are some necessary steps to follow such as selecting rice, grinding rice, seasoning, spreading batter and drying. The right amount of batter must be used so that every piece of rice sheet is round shaped and similarly sized. Removing cooked rice sheet from the cloth that's stretched over a wide pot of boiling water is considered as the hardest part, and, therefore the producer and the one who removes the rice paper should carefully join hand. As rice paper is still wet and easily torn, rice sheet should be gently placed on drying racks. This step may look simple, yet, it takes a long time to make beautiful rice sheet.

Steamed rice sheets are dried by the sunlight or drier on the rainy days. Then, rice papers are placed in cool place to avoid being shrunk or broken. For a while, rice paper can be easily removed from the rack.

Based on how the batter is mixed and making process, there are many kinds of rice paper such as dipping rice paper, grilled rice paper, coconut juice rice paper, etc. Some can be instantly eaten after being dipped in water while others must be grilled.

Rice paper making craft in Luu Bao village, Huong Ho ward, Huong Tra town was recognized as a traditional craft by the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province on decision 717 QD-UBND dated April 14th, 2014.
